How am I fooling myself?

New Orleans Voodoo Tarot – my hands down favourite deck for personal work

Healingthrutarot is having an April Tarot Challenge and this is the first prompt. I’m not sure how many I’ll do but I’m trying for every blessed one of them. I’m using my copy of The New Orleans Voodoo Tarot. For nearly 30 years it’s been my go to Tarot deck, especially for personal work.

Damballah is the great serpent. He stretches as a link between the worker and the wisdom of their ancestors.

In this card Damballah hangs in the branches of a tree at the crossroads. He’s fine right where he is,and appears to be in no hurry to move if he doesn’t have to. He’s just a serpent chilling in a tree, observing everything.

The energy of this card needs to be activated. In other words, Damballah needs to be pressed into service.

I am fooling myself if I believe that happy thoughts and intentions will ever fix anything. As I look at this card, I think of what Mike Dooley said in Leveraging The Universe: that there are a lot of people out there who think that the law of attraction is all about happy thoughts and affirmations. Those people end up slamming into a brick wall and going nowhere because manifestation is about direct action. I’m also reminded of something magician Don Tyson said about leaving things up to “God’s will”. Leaving things up to anyone else’s will ensures that they’ll never happen.

Will is the key. Only then will other forces be called into action.
